SCEMD will be offering Advance Amateur Radio Training Class on Saturday June 9, 2018. This is a formal training class and EMD will provide lunch. The class is open to all amateur radio operators but AUXCOMM and ARES will receive priority seat assignments.
Mr. Turner said student should register even if the class shows full.

If this is the first time you’ve registered for a class at SCEMD, you will need to create a log on. Follow the instruction for first time user.

You must complete fields with red asterisk. Federal Student Id field is your FEMA student number. If applying as AUXCOMM member, list AUXCOMM under Agency Represented. Discipline for amateur radio operators is Communications.
After you complete your form, the system will send you an email that you must verify. Once you click on the verify your account is set up and you can register for the course.

Florence Representatives of the South Carolina Communications Group, sponsored by the SC Department of Emergency Management, will be conducting the training session. This Training is designed to develop skills in this new technology called DMR or Digital Mobile Radio. South Carolina has developed a statewide UHF radio system to supplement the South Carolina Emergency Auxiliary Communications Network by using trained and qualified hams to assist when normal communications outlets are not available and/or overloaded. Also new Federal directives are in their infant stages requiring more extensive use of amateur radio in medical facilities.
The March training will consist of basic and intermediate DMR terms and concepts, operation and programming requirements to effectively operate most DMR transceivers being sold on the amateur market. The material will also overview DMR Hotspots such as the Shark RF Openspot and Raspberry Pi Variants . System Discussion will include the NC/SC PRN and the Brandmeister system.
