ARES NET OPERATING PROCEDURES 2010

Calling all ARES members. (Repeat three times)

This is (YOUR CALL, FIRST NAME, and POSITION) net control station, calling together the Amateur Radio Emergency Services Net for (DATE). This net is originating from (name area and city or /town)

This net meets on Sunday evenings at 20:00 local time using the linked repeater of the S. C. Hearts system, NC HEARS and in Charleston the CARS and TARC Clubs.

The purpose of this net is to assist ARES operators in the training for and handling of emergency communications.

While this net is directed to ARES members, we welcome and encourage all amateur radio operators to check in, even if you are not a member of ARES or RACES. If possible, all stations are asked to stay checked in until the end of the net . Announcements will be made at the begining and conclusion of roll call.

This is a directed net. All communications must be directed to net control unless otherwise authorized. If you have an emergency during the net please state the word “EMERGENCY” followed by your call and the frequency will be turned over to you for the duration of the emergency.

FORMAL NET CHECK-IN PROCEDURE

I will now stand by for the regular net check-ins. I will call stations by areas. Area 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Georgia and NCHEARS. Please give a count of two seconds after keying the mike and then give your call slowly, using standard, international phonetics, along with your name, location, and any position(s) you hold within the emergency communications structure and if you have any announcements or traffic. Remember to listen before keying the mike, and then allow the repeaters to link up before speaking.

This is net control, your call in phonetics, now taking check in stations from Area 1 which includes Abbeville, Anderson, Edgefield, Greenville, Greenwood, McCormick, Oconee and Pickens.

(Stop the net and ask the net to stand by whenever you need to in order to confirm check-ins and proceed to call for more check-ins.

We will now take check-ins from area 2, which includes Cherokee, Chester, Lancaster, Laurens, Spartanburg, Union and York

We will now take check-ins from area 3 which includes Calhoun, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry, Richland and Saluda

We will now take check-ins from area 4 which includes Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Horry, Lee, Marion and Marlboro.

We will now take check-ins from area 5 and in order to minimize doubling, we will take Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester separately starting with Berkeley County.

All those in Berkeley County, please check in now.

Taking check-ins from Charleston County now.

Taking checkins from Dorchester County now.

We will now take the checkins from the remaining counties which are

We will now take check-ins from area 6 which includes Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper.
